Le Sénégal est tombé sur plus fort que lui, ce 6 novembre à Goiania où l'attendait l'Espagne en huitième de finale de la Coupe du Monde U-17 de la FIFA, Brésil 2019. Les Lionceaux ont souffert face à la démonstration collective de la Rojita et quittent donc la compétition. Pour autant, ils n'ont pas à rougir de leur parcours, au cours duquel ils ont battu notamment les Pays-Bas, champions d'Europe, en phase de groupes.

Comme toute sélection espagnole, la Rojita propose un jeu en mouvement basé sur la possession, parfaitement maîtrisé. Ce 6 novembre, elle a asphyxié le Sénégal durant 75 minutes, au cours desquelles German Valera et Roberto Navarro, tous deux buteurs, ont particulièrement brillé. Menant 2-0, les Ibériques ont commencé à reculer et à abandonner la balle à des Sénégalais dos au mur. Ils ont un peu tremblé lorsque Souleymane Faye a réduit l'écart à la 85ème minute, mais ils ont su durcir le jeu ensuite pour ne plus autoriser aucune incursion. L'Espagne rencontrera le vainqueur du match France-Australie en quart.
Sénégal
En manque d'imagination face à une Espagne dominatrice, le Sénégal s'est longtemps contenté de défendre faute de pouvoir faire mieux. Quelques contres ont certes été menaçants, mais l'Espagne a été bien plus dangereuse et efficace. Il a fallu attendre le dernier quart d'heure pour voir les Africains, alors menés 2-0, sortir de leur coquille et créer un vrai danger sur le but d'Ivan Martinez. Leur poussée a été récompensée d'un but signé Souleymane Faye à la 85ème minute, mais la réaction a été trop tardive pour pouvoir remettre les pendules à l'heure. Le Sénégal quitte la compétition, mais pas par la petite porte.
