Vainqueurs respectivement de l’Angleterre et du pays hôte, le Japon et l’Espagne disputeront la finale de la Coupe du Monde Féminine U-20 de la FIFA, France 2018. Au cours d'une journée trépidante, le public breton a pu suivre deux demi-finales riches en émotions.
La première affiche a vu les Japonaises poursuivre sur la lancée de leur performance convaincante face à l’Allemagne. Les Jeunes Nadeshiko n’ont laissé aucune chance à leurs adversaires et ce n’est sans doute pas un hasard si Silvia Neid, The Best – Entraîneur de la FIFA pour le football féminin 2016, a fait de cette équipe son favori pour le titre.
L’autre demi-finale, 100% européenne, a donné lieu à un duel intense. Les Françaises ont longtemps dominé les débats, se procurant au passage les meilleures occasions. Mais la qualification a finalement basculé dans le camp d’une Rojita plus réaliste.

Un nouveau choc entre Europe et Asie : Pour la troisième fois dans l’histoire de la Coupe du Monde Féminine U-20, l’Asie et l’Europe se mesureront en finale. En 2004, l’Allemagne avait pris le meilleur sur la RP Chine. Puis, la RDP Corée avait imposé sa loi à la France, il y a deux ans en Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée.
Une série s’arrête, une autre continue : Le sort n’était pas du côté de Georgia Stanway. Après avoir trouvé le chemin des filets lors des quatre premières sorties de son équipe, la numéro 10 anglaise est restée muette en demi-finale contre le Japon. À l’inverse, Riko Ueki prolonge sa belle série. La Japonaise, auteure d’un triplé contre le Paraguay, a également fait mouche face à l’Allemagne et à l’Angleterre.
L’Espagne et le Japon ne se quittent plus : Quelle que soit l’issue de la finale, les Espagnoles sont d’ores et déjà entrées dans l’histoire. Pour la première fois, la Rojita est en finale de la Coupe du Monde Féminine U-20. Si, d’aventure, les Européennes venaient à s’imposer, elles écriraient un chapitre supplémentaire. En effet, l’Espagne n’a jamais remporté une Coupe du Monde Féminine, toutes catégories d’âge confondues. Trois joueuses ont cependant déjà participé à la finale d’un grand rendez-vous mondial : Patricia Guijarro, Carmen Menayo et Aitana Bonmati étaient présentes lors du dernier match de la Coupe du Monde Féminine U-17 de la FIFA, Costa Rica 2014. Leur adversaire à l’époque ? Le Japon !
Un premier carton rouge : Il aura fallu attendre les demi-finales pour assister au premier carton rouge de France 2018. Suite à une intervention brutale sur la Française Selma Bacha à la 69ème minute, l’Espagnole Aitana Bonmati a reçu son deuxième carton jaune de la partie, synonyme d’exclusion.
