LE FILM DE LA JOURNÉE - Le Brésil et la Suisse ont eu toutes les peines du monde pour se défaire, dans les arrêts de jeu, des courageuses équipes du Costa Rica, cinquième sélection éliminée de la compétition, et de la Serbie. L'issue du Groupe E est donc plus que jamais incertaine.
La solidité des Ticos, portés par un incroyable Keylor Navas, a bien failli avoir raison des hommes de Tite. Il a fallu attendre les arrêts de jeu pour que Philippe Coutinho fasse sauter le cadenas costaricien (90'+1). Neymar, qui n'a pu contenir ses larmes de soulagement à la fin du match, a ensuite scellé la victoire (2-0). La tâche n'a pas non plus été facile pour la Suisse, qui a concédé l'ouverture du score face à la Serbie. Toutefois, les réalisations de Granit Xhaka et de Xherdan Shaqiri ont permis à la Nati de sortir la tête de l'eau face à des Aigles Blancs qui se sont progressivement éteints. Les Suisses resteront maîtres de leur destin lors de la dernière journée du Groupe E.
L'autre rendez-vous du jour, qui clôturait la deuxième journée du Groupe D, a vu le Nigeria s'imposer 2:0 face à l'Islande et conserver toutes ses chances de qualification. Ce résultat est une aubaine pour les Argentins, qui pourront espérer une place en huitièmes de finale en cas de succès contre les Super Eagles. Ahmed Musa, auteur des deux buts de la rencontre, est devenu le deuxième Africain à signer deux doublés en Coupe du Monde de la FIFA™, lui qui avait fait trembler les filets à deux reprises contre cette même Argentine en 2014. Le premier à avoir réalisé cet exploit est Roger Milla, lors d'Italie 1990.
